Hypnoss: A Unique Floor Lamp Inspired by Vespa

Automobiles and motorcycles play a significant role in our lives, but they have a limited lifespan. Hypnoss takes the DNA of famous Italian motorcycles and gives them a new lease on life in the form of a floor lamp. The centerpiece of the design is a refurbished steering wheel, complete with its original odometer displaying a unique number of kilometers traveled.

The Hypnoss floor lamp is composed of three parts. The first is the refurbished steering wheel, which serves as the shining centerpiece of the lamp. Its wiring has been remapped to turn on the lamp and illuminate the odometer's lights using the original switch.

The second part is a metal structure inspired by the outlines of the original steering wheel and tripod joints. This central piece is meticulously crafted using CNC milling technology, ensuring precision and durability.

The third part of the lamp is the tripod, made from high-grade beech wood. This choice of material adds a touch of warmth and elegance, allowing the Hypnoss lamp to seamlessly blend into any interior design.

Measuring 700 mm x 300 mm x 1150 mm, the Hypnoss floor lamp is a statement piece that demands attention. Its unique combination of vintage motorcycle elements and modern lighting technology creates a captivating focal point in any room.

Functionally, the Hypnoss lamp operates as a standard floor lamp, with the added charm of being turned on by the original motorcycle electric switch on the steering wheel. It can be adjusted to different levels and rotated on the central metal structure, providing versatile lighting options.

The Hypnoss project began in the first quarter of 2019, with a focus on extending the life of objects that have had a significant impact on our lifestyle. By repurposing the steering wheels of iconic motorcycles, the design team aimed to create a connection between the past and the present, preserving memories and creating new experiences.

One of the main challenges in creating the Hypnoss lamp was refurbishing the steering wheels without erasing their memories. The team carefully selected the main steel body and the odometer to represent the identity and history of the motorcycles. Working with specialists in mechanics, sandblasting, car painting, electrics, CNC milling, and carpentry, the project became a collaborative effort that brought together various skills and expertise.

The Hypnoss floor lamp has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the lamp's outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Hypnoss lamp contributes to improving the quality of life by adding a touch of style and nostalgia to modern interiors.
